{"id":26467,"date":"2022-02-15T09:45:03","date_gmt":"2022-02-15T13:45:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=26467"},"modified":"2022-02-15T09:45:03","modified_gmt":"2022-02-15T13:45:03","slug":"how-did-covid-19-impact-how-our-two-local-hrm-councillors-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=26467","title":{"rendered":"How did COVID-19 impact how our two local HRM councillors work"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;105&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;93&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BEAVER BANK\/FALL RIVER:<\/strong> COVID-19 has meant changing routines for the two local councillors in the Beaver Bank and Fall River areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Councillors Lisa Blackburn, who represents Upper\/Middle Sackville-Lucasville-Beaver Bank, and Waverley-Fall River-Musquodoboit Valley representative Cathy Deagle Gammon both spoke of the impact the pandemic has had on their and how they do their job as councillors during the past two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have an office in my home now and never had one of those before, almost had to set one up out of a default,\u201d chuckled Blackburn in her answer. \u201cIt certainly adds a layer of just things, other things that you have to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt just sort of makes things that little bit more difficult. But you know other than that we&#8217;re surviving.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it does have its positives\u2014one doesn\u2019t have to worry about driving and getting to meetings, especially in the stormy winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not necessarily a bad thing, so I don&#8217;t really mind staying at home,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She does expect a rude awakening when things return to normal, and councillors go back into city hall full time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe going back to work will be tough on my dogs. I know that much,\u201d said Blackburn. \u201cThey&#8217;re used to having me at home all the time now, so it&#8217;ll be tough.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Blackburn said just because she\u2019s working from home doesn\u2019t mean she\u2019s not reachable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople are used to knowing that they can find me at the other end of the telephone or at the other end of the email. It doesn&#8217;t matter where I&#8217;m actually physically doing the work, just as long as I&#8217;m there to help support them. That&#8217;s the main thing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;148&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deagle Gammon said she married her husband Percy years ago because he went away for a living, and they didn&#8217;t have to be together 24\/7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith COVID-19 meaning we had to be together 24\/7, it was a little bit of a hardship for me,\u201d she said jokingly with a chuckle as Charlie her pet dog snuggled close by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She loves getting up, going to city hall, the energy from working as part of a team so the pandemic has really impacted all that for her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ll be honest, the first part of the pandemic was a bit of a struggle for me,\u201d she said. \u201cBut you know we&#8217;ve accommodated, have a nice office set up upstairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI know that I have it better than a lot in that I can do that.
