{"id":27108,"date":"2022-03-17T16:42:16","date_gmt":"2022-03-17T19:42:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=27108"},"modified":"2022-03-17T16:42:16","modified_gmt":"2022-03-17T19:42:16","slug":"delorey-axewomen-move-on-to-semi-finals-at-aus-basketball-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=27108","title":{"rendered":"Delorey, Axewomen move on to semi-finals at AUS basketball championships"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HALIFAX:<\/strong> Sarah Delorey and her Acadia Axewomen withstood a St. Francis Xavier X-Women squad that came out of the gate ready to play to advance to the AUS basketball championships semi-final on Saturday in Halifax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Axewomen seemed to not be able to find their legs and shooting precision as ball luck was not on their side early on, but as the game went on the Axewomen seemed to get their groove and in the latter half of the third and final quarters held off a valiant effort from the X-Women for the 81-73 victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Acadia will play the winner of the St. Mary\u2019s-UNB game that is set for Friday in one of the two semi-finals on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/IMG_3990-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27112\"\/><figcaption>Sarah Delorey reaches out to successfully keep the ball in play. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;8&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elmsdale\u2019s Delorey was one of the defensive bright spots for the Axewomen in the quarter-final, as she picked up four points, two from the free throw, in 18 minutes of action coming in off the bench,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also had five defensive rebounds and two offensive rebounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/IMG_3894-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27111\"\/><figcaption>Two X-Women defend against Acadia&#8217;s Sarah Delorey. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Delorey thought she got the nerves out pretty quickly in the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI thought I came out pretty strong defensively,\u201d she said. \u201cI was coming in focusing on defence and I think I did a pretty good job following up what I wanted to do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The HERH Tiger alum was pleased with her play, although she admitted the team had a rough start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe kept ourselves in it the whole game which we were happy about,\u201d said Delorey. \u2018We knew we had to come out stronger then ever in the second half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe did a good job and are happy with the win.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/IMG_4080-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27118\"\/><figcaption>Sarah Delorey makes a shot at the free throw line.
