{"id":27131,"date":"2022-03-18T00:29:02","date_gmt":"2022-03-18T03:29:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=27131"},"modified":"2022-03-18T00:29:02","modified_gmt":"2022-03-18T03:29:02","slug":"lancaster-scores-15-as-upei-advances-to-aus-womens-semi-final","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=27131","title":{"rendered":"Lancaster scores 15 as UPEI advances to AUS women&#8217;s semi-final"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HALIFAX:<\/strong> The top ranked UPEI Panthers women\u2019s basketball team overcame a couple rough patches to defeat the eighth seed Dalhousie Tigers on Thursday night at the AUS Basketball championships at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Panthers started off a bit sloppy but still manage to lead 14-4 after the first quarter, however the Tigers seemed to get the mojo going and closed the gap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the end it wasn\u2019t enough as the Matt Gamblin-coached Panthers punched their ticket to the 1 p.m. semi-final on Saturday March 19 against the winner of the Memorial-CBU quarterfinal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/IMG_4572-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27139\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/IMG_4501-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27138\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Fall River\u2019s Grace Lancaster, a freshman on the young squad, had ample playing time as Gamblin showed confidence in his young freshman in key situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lockview High alum contributed 15 points in 10 minutes of game action (although it seemed like she was on the court much longer).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think it was a really good game,\u201d said Lancaster post-game. \u201cWe definitely had a couple rough parts for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Panthers had plenty of chances to score when Dal held a 2-0 lead in the first quarter, but the luck wasn\u2019t going their way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe shots weren\u2019t falling our way,\u201d said the daughter of Lori and Scott Lancaster of St. Andrews Village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/IMG_4573-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27140\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/IMG_4442-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27136\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;8&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She was three-for-nine in three points; she had two rebounds and two assists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alicia Bowering with 19 points and Lauren Rainford with 15 points also were top point getters for the Charlottetown-based squad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/IMG_4328-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27133\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Lancaster said the team stuck together defensively for all 40 minutes of play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEven if offence wasn\u2019t doing the best our defence stuck together and that\u2019s what I think pulled us through in the end,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said she got the nerves out early on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was really excited to play here at the Scotiabank Centre because I\u2019ve come and watched here many times, so it was cool to play in it,\u201d said Lancaster. \u201cI used my nerves for good and it went well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;156&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her parents, grandparents and sister Ellie were front row in the crowd, and they made sure their voices could be heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI certainly did hear them all,\u201d said Lancaster with a chuckle. \u201cThanks<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gamblin said Lancaster played well as a rookie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur team is very young so it\u2019s not all about tonight but the work she put in through the whole year,\u201d said Gamblin. \u201cGrace is a hard worker and she\u2019s playing well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/IMG_4407-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27135\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;150&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;84&#8243;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;] [adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;] HALIFAX: The top ranked UPEI Panthers women\u2019s basketball team overcame a couple rough patches to defeat the eighth seed Dalhousie Tigers on Thursday night at the AUS Basketball championships at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax.
