{"id":27287,"date":"2022-03-24T11:55:06","date_gmt":"2022-03-24T14:55:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=27287"},"modified":"2022-03-24T11:55:06","modified_gmt":"2022-03-24T14:55:06","slug":"stewiacke-man-charged-with-firearms-offences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=27287","title":{"rendered":"Stewiacke man charged with firearms offences"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>STEWIACKE:<\/strong> A 39-year-old Stewiacke man has been charged with firearms offences after a complaint from a woman who reported the incident at a gas station in the community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RCMP say on March 16, at approximately 9:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious incident at a gas station on Main Street West in Stewiacke. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police learned that a woman had entered the gas station and provided an employee with information concerning a man who lived on Riverside Dr. in Stewiacke that was possibly in possession of firearms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The woman had arrived at the gas station in a black SUV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;2&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;156&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On March 17, at approximately 8 p.m., police, with assistance from the Nova Scotia Emergency Response Team, executed a search warrant at an apartment on Riverside Dr. in Stewiacke. No one was present at the time the search warrant was executed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the search, police seized a prohibited shotgun, a crossbow, crossbow arrows, and soft body armour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As police continued to investigate, they learned that the man had also been involved in a number of incidents of intimate partner violence against a woman known to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;92&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On March 22, police attended the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility. They arrested David James Bishop, 39, of Stewiacke, who was already in custody on unrelated incidents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bishop has been charged with the following offences:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Aggravated Assault;<\/li><li>Assault with a Weapon;<\/li><li>Uttering Threats;<\/li><li>Overcoming Resistance to the Commission of an Offence;<\/li><li>Unlawful Confinement (2 counts);<\/li><li>Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (2 counts);<\/li><li>Possession of a Firearm while Knowing Possession is Unauthorized;<\/li><li>Tampering with a Serial Number;<\/li><li>Unsafe Storage of a Firearm;<\/li><li>Pointing a Firearm;<\/li><li>Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose;<\/li><li>Possession of a Prohibited Weapon with Ammunition;<\/li><li>Possession of Body Armour Without Authorization;<\/li><li>Breach of Firearms Prohibition Order (2 counts);<\/li><li>Mischief.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Bishop appeared in Truro Provincial Court via teleconference and was remanded into custody.
