{"id":29230,"date":"2022-06-15T20:34:42","date_gmt":"2022-06-15T23:34:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=29230"},"modified":"2022-06-15T20:34:42","modified_gmt":"2022-06-15T23:34:42","slug":"goncalves-brushett-named-athletes-of-the-year-at-lockview-high","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=29230","title":{"rendered":"Goncalves, Brushett named Athletes of the Year at Lockview High"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;164&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Monica Johnston and Ryan Frizzle named Scholar Athletes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER:<\/strong> The top athlete award recipients at Lockview High all point to hard work and determination as key into getting them to where they are and helping them win their respective awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cameron Brushett of Windsor Junction and Izzy Goncalves of Wellington were named male and female Athlete of the Year, while Monica Johnston of the Fall River area and Ryan Frizzle of Fall River were named Scholar Athletes of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other major awards for most dominating performance; Rookie of the Year; Freshman Scholar Athlete of the Year; and Sportsperson of the Year were handed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/a74b2c4ba20d5b3dee7754624184b3e6_collage-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29364\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Brushett, 18, played for the Dragons football; baseball; hockey; lacrosse; and softball teams. He\u2019s heading to SMU in September for Engineering with a $1,500 academic scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said he never imagined himself as the Male Athlete of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf five years ago you told me I was going to be Lockview High School\u2019s male athlete of the year I would\u2019ve laughed in your face,\u201d he said. \u201cI would\u2019ve never made it this far without all my friends, family, teammates, and coaches support.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;8&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Goncalves, who is heading to SMU as well to play women\u2019s volleyball with the Lady Huskies, said her coaches have educated her a lot. She wants to become a Phys Ed teacher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve learned so much from each of my coaches that goes beyond the sport itself,\u201d the 17-year-old said. \u201cThe coaches I\u2019ve been lucky enough to have, have helped shaped who I am.
