Holding a book is a beautiful thing.\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;95&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;105&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER:<\/strong> Put down that cell phone and pick up a book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those words, from local councillor Cathy Deagle Gammon, were music to the ears of staff from Halifax Public Libraries and CEO and Chief Librarian Asa Kachan as they announced the installation of a new Kiosk in the lower level of the Gordon R. Snow Community Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShut off the computer. Get away from your phone. Get some fresh air. Go for a nice walk or a short drive,\u201d said Deagle Gammon. \u201cCome pick up a book. There is nothing better then holding a book in your hands. She said Deagle Gammon covered about half of the cost to see this happen, out of her Capital District Account. The total was $40,000, so the councillor covered $20,000 of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re delighted to be here,\u201d said Kachan. \u201cThank you to Tracy (Burns-Gagnon_) and her team who welcomed the Library into this shared space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe hope that having this here helps people meet one another.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/IMG_2665-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29593\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;171&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/IMG_2669-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29594\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The official installation event also included demonstrations of how to use the Kiosk with local resident Alan Joyce being the guinea pig; there were Library Membership, card registrations; and there was tea, coffee, and sweets provided for the close to 30 people on hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deagle Gammon has hopes residents will take advantage of the new Kiosk, along with free Wi-Fi, and public access printers and computers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHopefully, we\u2019ll have a lot more people coming into the Centre and using the kiosk and getting to know exactly all the amenities and services and programs that are available here at the Snow Centre,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s always good to have a happy occasion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There\u2019s lots of things happening that give us pause and anxiety, but to be able to celebrate something that is great is nice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;148&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;92&#8243;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;95&#8243;] [adrotate banner=&#8221;105&#8243;] FALL RIVER: Put down that cell phone and pick up a book.
