{"id":30570,"date":"2022-08-08T00:15:43","date_gmt":"2022-08-08T03:15:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=30570"},"modified":"2022-08-08T00:15:43","modified_gmt":"2022-08-08T03:15:43","slug":"waverleys-konigshofer-leaves-good-first-impression-with-javelin-gold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=30570","title":{"rendered":"Waverley&#8217;s Konigshofer leaves good first impression with javelin gold"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;156&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;84&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SHERBROOKE, QUE.:<\/strong> Julia Konigshofer can\u2019t wait to get home to her own bed in Waverley this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The young woman, who trains and competes with the Truro Lions Track &amp; Field Club, will be returning home with a gold medal from U-18 javelin at the Royal Canadian Legion Youth Track and Field nationals, held in Sherbrooke, Que.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That was just one of the many events that the Lockview High student competed in. She also wore the N.S. jersey at the Senior Women\u2019s Nationals in Manitoba; then suited up with Team Canada in a five game friendly series with Team Canada against the U.S., her childhood dream, before boarding a bus to Quebec for the track championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll three experiences were phenomenal,\u201d said Konigshofer. \u201cIt\u2019s what I have trained for and of what I\u2019ve been dreaming about. They were also mentally and physically exhausting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t wait to get home to Waverley and sleep in my own bed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;72&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;161&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Legion track and field nationals were her first experience of that event, and she went in with some lofty goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI went in ranked second in the nation and I really wanted to come home with gold,\u201d said Konigshofer. \u201cIt was exciting to win it for Nova Scotia. My teammates were cheering both during the event and when I was on the podium. That was a great feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After two years of no competitions in track due to the pandemic, she was happy to get back out there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cComing back this strong has been amazing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The result allows Konigshofer to rest her min a bit as to what lays ahead in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI feel like this is really just the start of my journey with javelin,\u201d said Konigshofer. \u201cI\u2019m excited to see what happens in the future. I am planning to go to university in the U.S. to throw javelin, so the next goal is already laid out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She credits her Truro Lions track team coach Iain Lapointe for helping her get to where she is able to win gold. Konigshofer said she has been throwing in the gold medal winning range of 42.38 metres all season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Konigshofer trains all year long, lifting weights, working on her mobility, and doing lots of speed work.
