{"id":30578,"date":"2022-08-08T06:45:53","date_gmt":"2022-08-08T09:45:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=30578"},"modified":"2022-08-08T06:45:53","modified_gmt":"2022-08-08T09:45:53","slug":"ecma-winner-toney-brings-2022-village-green-summer-concert-series-to-an-end-on-a-high-note","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=30578","title":{"rendered":"ECMA winner Toney brings 2022 Village Green Summer Concert Series to an end on a high note"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;84&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WAVERLEY:<\/strong> An upstart Mi\u2019kmaq singer-songwriter brought the 2022 Summer Concert Series to an end on a high note on the Village Green in Waverley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mi\u2019kmaq fiddler Morgan Toney, a multiple ECMA and other awards winner, and Keith Mullins performed during a two-hour set on Aug. 7 before approximately 125 people who came out in the 35-plus degree sunshine to listen to Toney and Mullins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Toney, 22, is a Mi\u2019kmaq singer-songwriter and fiddler from Wagmatcook First Nation who combines his Mi\u2019kmaq roots with his love of Cape Breton Celtic tunes. That has created a fresh new style which he calls \u201cMi\u2019kmaltic\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/IMG_8094-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30587\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;123&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;174&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The duos high-energy and diverse performances has been wowing crowds all year long, no matter where they play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Toney and Mullins show capped off a busy past few weeks of Summer Concert series shows that kicked of with Waverley\u2019s own Dave Carroll starting things.
