{"id":30773,"date":"2022-08-18T16:31:17","date_gmt":"2022-08-18T19:31:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=30773"},"modified":"2022-08-18T16:31:17","modified_gmt":"2022-08-18T19:31:17","slug":"fall-river-mom-daughter-sharing-unique-2022-canada-games-experience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=30773","title":{"rendered":"Fall River mom, daughter sharing unique 2022 Canada Games experience"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;95&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><small>by: Bill Potrecz, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bpsportsniagara.com\/\">BP Sports Niagara<\/a><\/small> (as posted on the 2022 Canada Games website)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NIAGARA, ONT.:<\/strong> Lori Lancaster has a lifetime of memories from her experiences at the 1987 Cape Breton and 1989 Saskatoon Canada Summer Games as a member of the Prince Edward Island women\u2019s basketball team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Lancaster\u2019s time at the Canada 2022 Niagara Summer Games as the Chef de Mission for Team Nova Scotia has blown those old memories out of the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lancaster is sharing her experiences this time around with her daughter Ellie Lancaster, a goalkeeper on Team Nova Scotia\u2019s women\u2019s soccer team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s exceptionally cool,\u201d Lori Lancaster said. \u201cI\u2019ve told her many times how proud we are of her and her achievements but being able to be in this environment \u2014 I have said to her there\u2019s really no experience like a Canada Games experience \u2014 not just on the playing field but in the (Athletes\u2019) Village and all those experiences of meeting athletes from other provinces and territories and experiencing going on to cheer on other teams.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe experience itself is really remarkable and I\u2019m so glad she\u2019s able to experience this and I\u2019m so glad to be able to share it with her.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;2&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ellie Lancaster, 17, choked back tears when asked what it meant to be able to share the experience with her mother.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJust having her here for support, it\u2019s crazy,\u201d she said. \u201cShe\u2019s one of my biggest role models . . . I feel so proud to represent my province and having her here to see me and watch me play and support me on and off the field, it\u2019s amazing to me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ellie Lancaster has heard all about her mom\u2019s experiences from 1987 and 1989.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe said it was one of her best experiences ever in sport,\u201d Ellie Lancaster said. \u201cShe remembers it to this day. Being able to experience it for myself is so cool because she was a two-time Canada Games player and following in her footsteps and going to Canada Games is a big accomplishment for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m proud to follow what she\u2019s done.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;84&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lori Lancaster has advised her daughter to cherish the experience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve said to each other this really is a once in a lifetime opportunity, especially for us sharing this as family and daughter and mother. I said to her savour every minute, every moment because these memories will be some of your most memorable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lori Lancaster, who works in Alumni Affairs at Mount Saint Vincent University, felt volunteering as a Chef de Mission was a no-brainer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI tell people I bleed sport. I\u2019ve played it, I\u2019ve coached it. This was a very unique opportunity I wanted to take advantage of. It\u2019s really a dream role to work with our provincial sport organizations and sports and being able to see them at their best at the Canada Summer Games,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;161&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;72&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mother and daughter have been able to share some time away from the Games as well while in Niagara.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe spectacular thing about these Games are the venues are so beautiful and unique, the Host Society has done an exceptional job with the venues,\u201d Lori Lancaster said. \u201cWe\u2019ve been to Niagara Falls and to Grimsby to watch the softball and the incredible Canada Games Park at Brock is exceptional.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mom was particularly pumped to watch her daughter record a shutout Tuesday night as Team Nova Scotia topped Team Newfoundland 2-0 in their first game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToday was a unique atmosphere in that you could really feel the energy,\u201d Lori Lancaster said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;92&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;123&#8243;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;95&#8243;] [adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;] by: Bill Potrecz, BP Sports Niagara (as posted on the 2022 Canada Games website) NIAGARA, ONT.: Lori Lancaster has a lifetime of memories from her experiences at the 1987 Cape Breton and 1989 Saskatoon Canada Summer Games as a member of the Prince Edward Island women\u2019s basketball team.
