That has led to her falling in love with the sport, and it shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grant, of Wellington, is leading the Nova Scotia domination on the waters at the Canada Games at the Welland International Flatwater Centre in Niagara, Ont.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Thursday, Grant made it three gold medals she is bringing home to N.S., teaming with fellow Cheema athlete Sloan MacKenzie of Windsor Junction to grab top spot in the C-2, 200-metre final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A day earlier, the 19-year-old won gold in C-1, 1000-metres in a very intense opening race, and IC-4, 500-metres with Ava Carew; Julia Lilley Osende; and Jessica Mackay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/8D23F2F4-049E-4404-8CC3-F7AFE786A643-1024x689.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30813\"\/><figcaption>(Len Wagg\/Communications N.S. Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;8&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;84&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is thrilled how all Team N.S. is fairing at the Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m super happy to end the summer like this,\u201d said Grant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grant liked the sound of being called dubbed \u201cNova Scotia\u2019s Golden Girl.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt does have a nice ring to it,\u201d she said with a laugh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The success at the Games is a result of many people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the result of all the support, the great coaches, the family, and lots of hard work,\u201d said Grant. \u201cIt feels amazing to see it all come together at the Canada Games.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;161&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;95&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grant has a feeling why N.S. is so dominant on the waters in Niagara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have great coaches this year and they have done everything possible to make sure we have everything we need, from like snacks to anything,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019ve had some great coaches back home helping us get ready for the Games. It worked.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She talked about the finish in the C-1, 1000-metres, an event she raced at Canoe 22 in Dartmouth. She finished fifth there. Grant managed a personal best time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJust being able to do the same race here was amazing,\u201d she said. \u201cIt was fun to be out there on the water.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;174&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;150&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now in C-2, 200-metres with MacKenzie, Grant hinted that they lucked into the gold medal in what was definitely not their best race. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe said after the race it was the worst we\u2019ve ever raced, but it doesn\u2019t matter we won,&#8221; she said. \u201cWe were out of stroke; we almost went in the lane. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We pushed and we did what we had to do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grant has two races on Friday where she has a chance to add to her Canada Games gold medal tally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;25&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;93&#8243;] [adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;] NIAGARA, Ont.: Jacy Grant began her foray into canoe\/kayak by simply joining the day camp offered at Cheema Aquatic Club through a friend.
