NDP say people are worried that the health care they or their loved ones need won\u2019t be there for them when they need it most. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;And what is Tim Houston doing to reassure people that he will fix health care?&#8221; the N.S. NDP asked in a press release to media. &#8220;He\u2019s holding meetings with Ontario Premier Doug Ford who is bringing more private health care to Ontario. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This is not the solution people in Nova Scotia were counting on.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;7&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>N.S. NDP Leader Claudia Chender said Premier Tim Houston is not working for everyday people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u201cHealth care is worse and harder to get today because of the choices Tim Houston and the Conservatives have made. Nova Scotians came together and supported each other throughout the pandemic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;They were optimistic about the future but a year in Tim Houston\u2019s choices have left families, seniors and young people are worse off.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;72&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Privatization is a concept ripped straight from the Conservative playbook. Doug Ford is already&nbsp; introducing more private health care options into Ontario and CBC reported on Friday that the Houston government is looking at private health care options for Nova Scotia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFamilies want to know that quality, accessible health care will be there for them when they need it,\u201d said Chender. \u201cAfter a year of the Houston Conservatives, more people are waiting for a family doctor, more people waiting in ERs and leaving without being seen, and more people are waiting for the surgeries they need. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;They can\u2019t afford to wait any longer and they certainly can\u2019t afford to pay out of pocket for the care they need.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;92&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;174&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Repeatedly, studies have shown that privately funded health care doesn\u2019t reduce wait times overall and can lead to longer waits in the public system. A r<a href=\"https:\/\/www.policynote.ca\/the-evidence-on-wait-times-and-private-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">eview of research in Canada, the UK, and Australia<\/a> found that: \u201cEvidence indicates that privately funded health services and long public wait times go hand in hand, and that growth in private payment will do nothing to alleviate it,\u201d wrote Dr. Vanessa Brcic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Ford-Houston meeting on Sunday has a lot of people worried about what\u2019s to come from the Houston government,\u201d said Chender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u201cPeople are concerned that the Premier has given up on fixing our public health care system and appears ready to sell it off to the highest bidder.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;148&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;150&#8243;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;105&#8243;] [adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;] From a press release HALIFAX: The N.S.
