It turned out she was the lone girl outside of Norway or Sweden in attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 18-year-old, who also announced she has committed to University of Ottawa for cross-country skiing after being recommended by good friend and fellow Fall River athlete Emma Archibald, said the trip to Norway was important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cComing from Nova Scotia, and Canada in general, cross-country skiing isn&#8217;t the biggest sport out there, but in Norway, cross-country skiing is huge,\u201d she said in a recent phone interview with The Laker News. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;7&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEveryone has free access all the time so that people do it, everyone there does it, and I&#8217;m excited to.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/D189365B-A780-4E92-AC11-45D3A3E6D639-576x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31041\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It all started by McIntyre seeing a post about the training camp and her taking the initiative to email one of the coordinators of the camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe got back to me almost immediately and was in awe that I wanted to come all the way from Canada because I don&#8217;t think she knew how big of a deal it was for me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said the people organizing it were a ski coach who the best male skier in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHis ski coach was running it, and the most decorated cross-country skier, she was leading the training,\u201d said McIntyre, adding that skier was Marit Bjorgen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;72&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;148&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/1E14CBB7-59C7-4544-A266-83A3BF13A329-e1661907924641.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31042\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>McIntyre was among a group of 20 girls, all from the Norway and Sweden areas. The camp is typically all Scandinavian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She had a good first impression of the camp after arriving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m sitting there eating dinner and then all of a sudden, this world-renowned skier walks in and sits down in front of me,\u201d recalled McIntyre. \u201cIt was the most amazing experience I&#8217;ve ever had.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Training in Norway - Grace McIntyre\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gEW-X0X0MhE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;92&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Switching gears, McIntyre spoke about Archibald and friends from N.B. helping her make the decision to go to University of Ottawa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEmma talked to the ski coach about me wanting to come and I was in conversation with both of them several times about it,\u201d said McIntyre. \u201cShe definitely assisted my decision and a few friends from New Brunswick too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have quite the crew of Nova Scotian skiers up in Ottawa. So it was an easy choice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McIntyre, who headed out on Aug. 27, said she was looking forward to getting to the University of Ottawa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s all new stuff to me, but it&#8217;s very comforting knowing that I&#8217;m going to know those people there and have a team that&#8217;s familiar to me,\u201d said McIntyre. \u201cI&#8217;m looking forward to it, but still a bit nervous.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;174&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;123&#8243;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;169&#8243;] [adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;] FALL RIVER: One local cross-country skier had a summer to remember, improving her skills with athletes from Scandinavian countries.
