{"id":31538,"date":"2022-09-28T23:27:46","date_gmt":"2022-09-29T02:27:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=31538"},"modified":"2022-09-28T23:27:46","modified_gmt":"2022-09-29T02:27:46","slug":"hard-work-pays-off-as-fall-rivers-archibald-named-to-soccer-canadas-u-17-womens-world-cup-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=31538","title":{"rendered":"Hard work pays off as Fall River&#8217;s Archibald named to Soccer Canada&#8217;s U-17 women&#8217;s world cup team"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;161&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>VANCOUVER, B.C.:<\/strong> \u00a0A Fall River soccer player is reaping the rewards of her hard work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mya Archibald was officially announced earlier this week as a member of the Canadian women\u2019s soccer team that will compete at the FIFA under-17 women\u2019s World Cup, running Oct. 11-30 in India. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Archibald and her teammates were scheduled to leave for the competition on Friday Sept. 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reached in Vancouver where the talented athlete is a member of the Vancouver Whitecaps elite women\u2019s team, she spoke to The Laker News of what making the team meant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m so excited,\u2019 said Archibald during the 10 am interview (6 am BC time). \u201cIt&#8217;s really a dream come true. It&#8217;s surreal. I actually can&#8217;t believe it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt means so much to me. It just showed me that hard work can really pay off, and if you put your mind to something, you can achieve it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;8&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;84&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Archibald said her showing, along with having a Nova Scotian on the U20 national and U15 national teams has to serve as inspiration for other young soccer players back home with Soccer N.S. and their respective programs and teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think that representation just shows that like even being from a smaller province we can still do it,\u201d said Archibald, who did attend Lockview High. :We still have the players that can compete at that level. It\u2019s really inspiring for younger players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI know when I saw Annika Leslie make the U15 national team and then the U-20 national teams after COVID, that just showed me I could do it too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;169&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The former star with the Suburban FC program in Halifax also helped N.S. to bronze at the Canada Games this past summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat was a great experience,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Archibald spoke of expectations for the team at the FIFA U17 World women\u2019s cup.
