{"id":32148,"date":"2022-10-27T23:30:31","date_gmt":"2022-10-28T02:30:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=32148"},"modified":"2022-10-27T23:30:31","modified_gmt":"2022-10-28T02:30:31","slug":"food-bank-survey-shows-usage-increase-feed-n-s-continues-advocacy-for-policy-based-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=32148","title":{"rendered":"Food Bank survey shows usage increase; Feed N.S. continues advocacy for policy-based change"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;105&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;123&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER:<\/strong> As the number of people visiting food banks rises, Nova Scotians are recognizing that charity isn\u2019t the long-term fix.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNova Scotians need more income to meet their basic needs,\u201d says Nick Jennery, executive director of Feed Nova Scotia. \u201cAnd that\u2019s going to only come from policy-based, government intervention.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fbcblobstorage.blob.core.windows.net\/wordpress\/2022\/10\/TLC_HungerCount22_report-21OCT22.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Food Banks Canada\u2019s HungerCount<\/a>, a national report on food bank use released today, shows a 14 per cent increase in the number of visits to food banks in Nova Scotia in March 2022 compared to March 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When food bank clients were asked the reason for accessing support, 30% identified the cost of food.
