{"id":33409,"date":"2023-01-02T11:30:37","date_gmt":"2023-01-02T15:30:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=33409"},"modified":"2023-01-02T11:30:37","modified_gmt":"2023-01-02T15:30:37","slug":"macdonald-dealt-by-sea-dogs-to-olympiques","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=33409","title":{"rendered":"MacDonald dealt by Sea Dogs to Olympiques"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WELLINGTON:<\/strong> A hockey player with ties to Wellington has been traded in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a deal announced on Dec. 30, forward Cam MacDonald, who has family in Wellington, was traded by the Saint John Sea Dogs to Gatineau Olympiques for a first round pick and a second round pick (Drummondville) in the 2024 QMJHL Draft. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MacDonald, 19, was originally selected by the Sea Dogs in the third round of the 2019 QMJHL Entry Draft. He had 29 points in 27 games this season and a total of 117 points in 124 QMJHL games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;84&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;115&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sea Dogs President and General Manager, Trevor Georgie, said that dealing MacDonald was a difficult trade to make.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEveryone loves and respects Cam here. He has been a strong presence for our group on and off the ice,\u201d said Georgie in a release. \u201cIt could be his last season of junior hockey and we wanted to give him an opportunity to push for another championship.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MacDonald, an NHL Tampa Bay Lightning prospect, will be best remembered by Sea Dogs fans for his standout performance in the 2022 Memorial Cup Final scoring a goal and adding two assists against the Hamilton Bulldogs en route to being crowned champions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Trade-Landscape-730x411-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33411\" width=\"740\" height=\"417\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Trade-Landscape-730x411-1.jpg 730w, https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Trade-Landscape-730x411-1-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Sea Dogs post on the trade.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;188&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;8&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He wanted to thank the Sea Dogs and fans for their support and opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never seen a building as electric as during the Memorial Cup and the city was behind us all the way to the end,\u201d said MacDonald. \u201cThe fans played a huge part in our victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThank you to the Sea Dogs for giving me the opportunity to win a Memorial Cup and building the team that we had. Lots of memories came over my two-and-a-half years that I will forever be grateful for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLastly, thank you to my teammates over the years. It\u2019s hard to leave but I look forward to seeing these guys on the ice again soon.
