ELMSDALE:<\/strong> The old saying \u201cif it sounds to good to be true\u201d rings true with a pair of scams circulating locally, East Hants RCMP say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n S\/Sgt. Cory Bushell said the two scams have been amongst calls the detachment has received in the past couple of weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He said the first is a popular scam where a suspect poses as an online \u201cbuyer\u201d for a used vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”115″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”190″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n He said in that scam, the \u201cbuyer\u201d pretends to be very interested in purchasing the vehicle, but insists a vehicle history report be provided, similar to a CARFAX report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe \u201cbuyer\u201d acts as though they don\u2019t want to get ripped off and provides a website they want the \u201cseller\u201d to use in order to get the report,\u201d said S\/Sgt. Bushell. \u201cThe website charges a fee of approximately $25 and accepts various forms of payment such as PayPal or other means.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n S\/Sgt. Bushell said the website takes the $25 payment, no report is provided, and the \u201cseller\u201d does not hear from the \u201cbuyer\u201d again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate group=”2″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”126″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n The second comes in the form of a text which purports to be from Canada Post. It claims you have an unclaimed parcel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe scam leads the victim into believing they have something to gain, but asks for money first,\u201d said S\/Sgt.
