FALL RIVER:<\/strong> A Fall River hockey player will get to follow in the footsteps of his dad next week at a prestigious international hockey tournament in Quebec.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Max Brien, 13, is one of six local players on the Bedford Blues U-13 AAA team that will participate in the International Quebec Peewee hockey tournament, running from Feb. 8-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Brien\u2019s dad Colin attended and played in the tournament when he was Max\u2019s age. One of the 13-year-old\u2019s coaches also played in the tournament. That makes playing in it a special moment for Max.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMy dad showed me his program and team picture and told me it was the best tournament and his favourite hockey memory,\u201d said Max in an interview with The Laker News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When Colin went he was billeted at another players house, but Max and his teammates will be staying in a hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate group=”8″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”115″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n Other players on the blues from the local area include: Asher Hopkins; Mitchell Brewer; Maddox Burke; Joel Hacala, and Liam Duffy. All but Burke attend Georges P. Vanier Junior High in Fall River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Max said he\u2019s excited to go. The Blues were scheduled to represent at last year\u2019s tournament, but Covid-19 cancelled it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2019ve been looking forward to second year U13 for a long time because I knew I would get to play in this tournament,\u201d said Max. \u201cI knew I would have a lot of my friends on the team to share the experience with.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”111″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”84″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mitchell said he is also excited about attending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe tournament is a lot of fun with all the really good teams from other places,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s such a big tournament.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Besides the hockey on ice, what is Mitchell most looking forward too?<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe pin trading is awesome,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He said the team is hoping to win some and watch a few other games as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOur team is going to do some fun carnival things together too in our free time,\u201d said Mitchell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”126″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”188″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n Max said he\u2019s looking forward to meeting players from other countries and exchange pins with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThere is even a Ukrainian team going,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He added he hopes for a tournament his teammates can come away happy with their performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI hope our team can work together and feel good about how we play,\u201d said Max. \u201cI know there will be a lot of really great teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt would be nice to come home with a medal, but if not, I know we will come home with a lot of great memories.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”190″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”169″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”123″]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" [adrotate banner=”78″] [adrotate banner=”105″] FALL RIVER: A Fall River hockey player will get to follow in the footsteps of his dad next week at a prestigious international hockey tournament in Quebec.
