Andrew Joyce of the RCMP Financial Crime unit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFalse investment opportunities, fake relationships, and bogus prize winnings are costing Nova Scotians thousands.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;148&#8242;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on dollar losses, the top ten scams in the province in 2022 were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Investments &#8211; $1,823,133.29<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Romance &#8211; $616,051.58<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prize &#8211; $318,187.51<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spear phishing &#8211; $276,512.30<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vendor fraud &#8211; $164,807.19<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Job &#8211; $134,132.13<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Service &#8211; $118,342.45<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extortion &#8211; $104,128.00<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Merchandise &#8211; $67,547.96<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Emergency (jail, accident, hospital, help) &#8211; $60,616.00<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith March being Fraud Prevention Month, we\u2019re taking this opportunity to remind Nova Scotians to be alert to scam activity,\u201d said Sgt. Joyce. \u201cIt\u2019s rampant.
