{"id":34817,"date":"2023-03-04T19:21:35","date_gmt":"2023-03-04T23:21:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=34817"},"modified":"2023-03-04T19:21:35","modified_gmt":"2023-03-04T23:21:35","slug":"canada-games-creates-memories-for-three-cross-country-skiers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=34817","title":{"rendered":"Canada Games creates memories for three cross country skiers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;193&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CHARLOTTETOWN<\/strong>: As the 2023 Canada Games competition wraps up, three local cross country skiiers will take away fond memories of their participation with Team Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jack MacMillan; Grace McIntyre; and Emma Archibald, all of Fall River, competed for the past week at the Brookvale Nordic course in Brookvale, about half an hour outside Charlottetown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Archibald came away with three medals, including two gold, while MacMillan and McIntyre had good weeks of racing as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;194&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;7&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MacMillan said he had a week he enjoyed on a race course he deemed as great.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHaving the support of friends and families from all three Maritime provinces is amazing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He felt as team Nova Scotia had a great week of racing, and several personal bests were set as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have all skied well and to the best of our abilities,\u201d said MacMillan. \u201cAchieving these results with the rest of the country watching is great.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MacMillan said Nova Scotia\u2019s results puts the spotlight on smaller provinces like N.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt shines the light on the smaller provinces out east and the unique and healthy environment we strive to train, complete and conduct ourselves within,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;92&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McIntyre said she had a lot of fun with a great team\u2014and the weather was a bonus for the skiiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe really got the best weather we could have asked for, and some really fast skiing,\u201d said the university of Ottawa Nordiq ski team member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She was asked what she was able to learn from the week of races and the results outcome for herself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe best races don\u2019t always come from the best results,\u201d said McIntyre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She was proud to wear the Team Nova Scotia colours at the 2023 Canada Games in P.E.I.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great to be out here supporting the team,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=\u201d54\u201d]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;8&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Archibald said she has come to see that this is a team sport, even if your just the one racing the races.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHaving all of my N.S. teammates, coaches, and parents cheering me on all around the course really helped push me,\u201d she said. \u201cToday in the relay we were all very proud of&nbsp;each other.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The N.S. teams finished 18<sup>th<\/sup> (Milo Sircom-Brown; Fiona McClure; Cohen Norman; and Grace McIntyre) and 26<sup>th<\/sup> (Lynden Doyon; Paige Neklia; Jack MacMillan; and Archibald) in the mixed relay race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The three-time 2023 Canada Games medalist, who competes with the uOttawa Nordiq ski team at the University of Ottawa, said it has been a very memorable experience competing back with the N.S. team who have been the best teammates and coaches.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;84&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;176&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Archibald, named a co-flag bearer for Team N.S. for the closing ceremonies, said the podium finishes she has had this week mean a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey have meant the most to me&nbsp;because of the&nbsp;abundance&nbsp;of support&nbsp;I have&nbsp;received&nbsp;from my&nbsp;home province over the years in my development in this sport,\u201d said Archibald.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very&nbsp;humbled to be&nbsp;able&nbsp;to&nbsp;represent Nova&nbsp;Scotia at this National level.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=\u201d169\u201d]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;126&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;193&#8243;] [adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;] CHARLOTTETOWN: As the 2023 Canada Games competition wraps up, three local cross country skiiers will take away fond memories of their participation with Team Nova Scotia.
