HALIFAX:<\/strong> A gymnastics coach from Fall River, a Canoe athlete along with his teammate, and a taekwondo athlete from Wellington are the three local athletes who were awarded Support4Sport awards on Saturday night May 27 in a ceremony in Halifax. <\/p>\n\n\n\n David Kikuchi, who coaches Halifax’s Ellie Black, was honoured as Coach of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Waverley’s Craig Spence, who is an athlete from Cheema, and partner Bret Himmelman were named the Team of The Year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Raya Mae Porter of Wellington, who competes with Inner Strength Taekwondo in Wellingotn, was named the Jr Feamale Athlete of the Year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Mya Archibald of Fall River was one of the two other finalists in this category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”84″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate group=”8″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n More than 200 awards were given to the province\u2019s top athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and community sport organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Support4Sport<\/em> Awards recognize the achievements of Nova Scotia\u2019s top athletes, teams, coaches, officials and volunteers in amateur sport over the past year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Each of the finalists were nominated by their provincial sport organization as the best in their sport. These are the provincial sport organization winners. Winners for each sport can then go forward for the overall<\/em> award in the same category (across all sports). There were two committees who reviewed all of the selections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The volunteer judging committees are comprised of leaders of the provincial sport organizations, representatives from the Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic, members of the media, Sport Nova Scotia\u2019s board of directors and community sport stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The first committee looked at the nominee\u2019s most outstanding performance of the past year-worth 60% of the nominee\u2019s overall score.
