{"id":36646,"date":"2023-06-21T23:04:17","date_gmt":"2023-06-22T02:04:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=36646"},"modified":"2023-06-21T23:04:17","modified_gmt":"2023-06-22T02:04:17","slug":"dawe-forward-big-winners-at-herhs-athletic-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=36646","title":{"rendered":"Dawe, Forward big winners at HERH&#8217;s Athletic Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MILFORD:<\/strong> A golfer and a hockey sniper were the big winners at Hants East Rural High School\u2019s Athletic Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hudson Forward was named the HERH Male Athlete of the Year, while Dahlia Dawe earned the female Athlete of the Year honour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The awards to teams and individual athletes, including those from the Tigers Unified team, were presented on June 15 during a ceremony before family and friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other major awards handed out were the School Sport Nova Scotia Award; Leadership Award; Tiger Spirit award; Chester Clark Award; Academic Team; and Principal\u2019s Team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_1299-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36664\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A Unified team member gets a certificate. She picked up several team awards for the respective clubs she participated in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Liam MacKinnon and Courtney Grant (coach) also earned the award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forward earned a team award in golf amongst the clubs he participated in during the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an honour to win this award,\u201d said Forward on being named the Male Athlete. \u201cI\u2019ve been playing these sports all my years, and finally to get recognition feels amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Enfield resident said he never thought he would win individual awards for his sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI never imagined I would win an individual award for them,\u201d he said. \u201cI had a lot of excitement walking down to the stage.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_1408-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36669\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Mr. Comeau gets a hug from Kadynce Ashton before presenting her with an award. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;115&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;8&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dawe, who calls Elmsdale home, said she\u2019s thrilled to earn female athlete of the year honours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt means a lot to me,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m really happy at how far I\u2019ve come.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She was a key member of the HERH Lady Tigers, while also hitting the ice for the U-18 female hockey Halifax Greenfoot Capitals (formerly the Western Capitals).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the Caps, Dawe had two goas and six assists in 24 games played during the Maritime Major Female Hockey League regular season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dawe said every one of her teammates in her sports played a part in her getting the top honour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere were a lot of early morning practices and striving to get better each day,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m happy that some of my close friends got awards as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_1465-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36675\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Chester Clark award winners Sierra Foley and Cameron Cox.
