{"id":39200,"date":"2023-10-02T12:47:52","date_gmt":"2023-10-02T15:47:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=39200"},"modified":"2023-10-02T12:47:52","modified_gmt":"2023-10-02T15:47:52","slug":"work-being-done-to-build-case-to-bring-transit-into-fall-river","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=39200","title":{"rendered":"Work being done to build case to bring transit into Fall River"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;93&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER: <\/strong>The local councillor informed residents about where bringing Halifax Transit into the community stands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the community meeting organized by residents and held recently at the LWF Hall in Fall River, Councillor Cathy Deagle Gammon informed the full house that the Transit Service Boundary isn\u2019t up for discussion until next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s when we\u2019ll start a new five-year plan,\u201d she said. \u201cThat\u2019s the time when I\u2019ll be able to my work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was one of the many topics that were discussed at the two-and-a-half hour long meeting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said in the meantime she has been doing lots of research to find out what steps she needs to take to convince Halifax Transit to extend the service into Fall River and not just the park and ride at the top of Perrin Drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRetired Councillor (Barry) Dalrymple had HRM buy the land across from the Dairy Queen,\u201d she said. \u201cThe intention at the time was that it would be where transit could come in and make a turn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat was one of the reasons HRM purchased that land.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, until the Transit Service Boundary gets changed, there can\u2019t be any transit service into the main part of Fall River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUntil 2024 we can\u2019t be able to have that,\u201d said Deagle Gammon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;192&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said a local resident and NSCC data students have worked with her building stats from the Fall River Plaza business community as a starter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve done a little bit of research around the business community because there have been some businesses compromised because of the lack of transit,\u201d said Deagle Gamon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe businesses have spoken about not getting employees because in order to come they have to have a car because there\u2019s no transit available to their location.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deagle Gammon said they know of the issue and are working on a plan.
