{"id":40031,"date":"2023-11-01T20:13:00","date_gmt":"2023-11-01T23:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=40031"},"modified":"2023-11-01T20:13:00","modified_gmt":"2023-11-01T23:13:00","slug":"it-was-a-surprise-tucker-selected-for-mental-health-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=40031","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;It was a surprise.&#8221; Tucker selected for Mental Health award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;126&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WELLINGTON:<\/strong> A Wellington girl was very honoured recently to be the recipient of an award from the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Naphtali Tucker was one of seven Nova Scotians recognized for their inspirational contributions to the mental health community today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The awards were presented during the Foundation\u2019s annual event,&nbsp;<em>Let\u2019s Keep Talking<\/em>, presented by Bell Let\u2019s Talk, at the Halifax Central Library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is the perfect way to recognize and celebrate the amazing achievements of outstanding Nova Scotians, at the perfect time,\u201d said Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia President &amp; CEO Starr Cunningham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMental Illness Awareness Week is a time to make Canadians aware of the realities of mental illness and addiction. Our award recipients do just that, in the best possible way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;205&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tucker, 15, was selected as the Outstanding Youth recipient for the awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was very honoured to receive this award,\u201d Tucker told the Laker News in an interview at a recent art and craft fair at Georges P. Vanier Junior High in Fall River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMental health is important to talk about especially with youth whose brains work differently and don\u2019t feel like they belong.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lockview High School student is autistic and has anxiety.
