Power ahead of storm"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;92&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;188&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NOVA SCOTIA:<\/strong> Nova Scotia Power is activating its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Monday morning, (December<br \/>18) at 9am ahead of the high winds and rain expected to hit the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been monitoring the weather forecasts for the last number of days and have made the decision to open<br \/>the Emergency Operation Centre to coordinate our storm response,\u201d said Matt Drover, Nova Scotia Power\u2019s Storm<br \/>Lead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBased on those forecasts we are expecting something very similar to last Monday, with rain and high winds<br \/>for long durations across much of the province,\u201d said Drover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;7&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nova Scotia Power is working closely with the Nova Scotia Emergency Management Office and crews are being<br \/>positioned in various communities across the province, so they are ready to respond quickly, when it\u2019s safe to do<br \/>so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHigh winds can cause trees to come into contact with power lines damaging equipment and causing power<br \/>outages,\u201d said Drover. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey can also slow restoration efforts depending on the extent of the damage they cause, and force crews to stand down when winds reach 80km an hour, as it isn\u2019t safe to be up in the buckets,\u201d said Drover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Outage Information<\/strong><br \/>Customers can report outages and get estimated restoration times online at outagemap.nspower.ca or by calling<br \/>1-877-428-6004. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Estimated restoration times are updated once crews are able to assess the damage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more info on restoration phases visit: http:\/\/nspower.ca\/storm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Safety and storm preparedness tips can be found on our website: www.nspower.ca\/stormready <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;192&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;71&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>QUICK FACTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>NS Power has invested $32 million in tree trimming this year (2023) \u2013 $7 million more than last year. That<br \/>investment will increase to $42 million next year (2024).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Along with tree trimming, we\u2019ve been doing other proactive upgrades and maintenance throughout the year<br \/>including replacing poles with stronger more resilient ones.
