{"id":41889,"date":"2024-01-09T17:17:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-09T21:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=41889"},"modified":"2024-01-09T17:17:00","modified_gmt":"2024-01-09T21:17:00","slug":"heavy-rain-high-winds-expected-across-n-s-on-wednesday-jan-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=41889","title":{"rendered":"Heavy rain, high winds expected across N.S. on Wednesday Jan. 10"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;126&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;206&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HRM\/EAST HANTS: <\/strong>Environment Canada is advising Nova Scotians to prepare for a wet and windy Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In their forecast posted as of 3:37 p.m. on Jan 9 on their weather website, they are calling for rainfall, combined with melting snow, as being expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall,\u201d Environment Canada said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The total rainfall expected is between 20 to 40 mm across most of Nova Scotia during the day Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;192&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;71&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The forecast said heavy rainfall and strong winds, coupled with mild temperatures will lead to significant to near total melting of the existing snow pack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The combination of run-off and rainfall will increase the risk of localized flooding in poor drainage areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the wind warning issued, Environment Canada said that strong winds may cause damage are expected with a maximum wind gusts of southeasterly 90 to 100 km\/h.
