{"id":42047,"date":"2024-01-16T20:04:08","date_gmt":"2024-01-17T00:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=42047"},"modified":"2024-01-16T20:04:08","modified_gmt":"2024-01-17T00:04:08","slug":"fall-river-players-power-armada-to-ice-jam-u-16-championship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=42047","title":{"rendered":"Fall River players power Armada to Ice Jam U-16 championship"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER:<\/strong> Five players from the Fall River area and one staff member have earned the crown as Cleve\u2019s Source for Sports East Coast ice Jam champions for the Under-16 division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Basin Armada nipped rivals Kings Hockey Club, who has players from Fall River and East Hants on their roster, in the championship final on Sunday afternoon to taste gold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earning that bite into their gold medals were Nate Boudreau; Alex Damczyk, goalie Payson Stewart; Trent Peveril; and Liam Conlon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Daniel MacKenzie is the equipment manager\/assistant manager for the Armada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;126&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;8&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the final, it was Noah Maccallum-Stokes scoring the game winner in overtime on a pass by Windsor Junction\u2019s Conlon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chris Brill on the power-play had the other tally for the Armada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Espen Simensen and Samuel Cowan picked up assists on Brill\u2019s goal to tie the game at 1-1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dylen Probert had the Kings goal to open the game scoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Armada goalie Dylan Benautio picked up the goaltending win, while it was Nate Beaton who suffered the loss in goal. (Submitted photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the semi-final, Basin Armada tripped up the Thunder 3-2 on a game winner from Liam Conlon at 10:22 of the third period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jaxson Prior and Nathan Turple had the other goals for the Bedford-based squad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conlon, Sam Cowan, Damczyk, Prior, Henrik Gerard, and Carson MacDonald picked up the assists for the Armada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Payson Stewart earned the win in net coming up with big saves to give his team the shot to win and advance to the final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kings punched their ticket to the final with a 3-2 win over the undefeated Moncton Thunderbirds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joel Verge; Theo Stapleton; and Braden Martin with the winner had the goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chace Munden; Jackson Orchard, who setup Martin\u2019s winner; Nic MacIntyre; and Josh Hollett had assists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nolan McLauchlan had the win in net giving his team the final berth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=190&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;148&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During regular season play the Armada are in second place and the Kings are in fifth, so making it to the final showed great improvement for the Kings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It truly showed how close the league is and any team winning on any given day no matter the opponent is possible and created exciting game atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other games for the Armada defeated the Western Rebels in the quarter-final 7-1; edged the Rebels in their final round-robin game on a Conlon game winner 2-1; blanked the NL Osprey 15-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Armada started the tournament with a 4-2 loss to the Wildcats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Basin\u2019s Jaxson Prior was a first team all-star forward while Payson Stewart was named first team all-star goalie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nic MacIntyre from the Kings was named to the first all star squad, while defenceman Donovan Jay was named to the second all star team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;92&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;169&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;192&#8243;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;] [adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;] FALL RIVER: Five players from the Fall River area and one staff member have earned the crown as Cleve\u2019s Source for Sports East Coast ice Jam champions for the Under-16 division.
