(Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Poppy Moon (Bedford)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bronze at Legion Nationals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Went from 2:28 the year before to 2:13<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PBd from 400m to 3000m<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;169&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;92&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scott Turnbull Award for Perseverance&nbsp;and Determination<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scott Turnbull trained with Chebucto Athletics in the 70&#8217;s and 80&#8217;s. He won a gold medal at Youth Legion National Championships, not just with talent, but was proof that through dedication and perseverance, reaching your goals is always possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He then went on to give back to the sport by coaching and volunteering with the Special Olympics in the Annapolis Valley since the mid-1980&#8217;s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Scott Turnbull award is presented annually to an individual that represents dedication, hard work and perseverance, and a commitment&nbsp;to the sport and to their team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were two recipients for 2023, as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_8005-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-42144\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Cate Gaudry. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cate Gaudry (Windsor Junction)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cate broke her foot in the spring and spent the majority of the summer in a walking boot. Most athletes, especially at the high school level, would have been out for the season after this kind of injury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, Cate decided to start training for the throws, continued to attend every practice, and actually qualified for provincials in shot put while throwing in her boot &#8211; she stuck a peanut butter lid onto the bottom of the boot so she could spin in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_8008-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-42145\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Zack Rogers.
