{"id":42174,"date":"2024-01-23T08:04:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-23T12:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=42174"},"modified":"2024-01-23T08:04:00","modified_gmt":"2024-01-23T12:04:00","slug":"province-announces-more-supports-for-families-of-children-with-autism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=42174","title":{"rendered":"Province announces more supports for families of children with autism"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banenr=&#8221;93&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;192&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>From a press release:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HALIFAX\/EAST HANTS:<\/strong> Many Nova Scotians who have a child with autism can apply for up to $3,000 to cover the costs of equipment, supplies and other expenses, the province&#8217;s Minister of Addictions and Mental Health said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new one-time Autism Family Support Fund is available to lower-income families with an autistic child 16 years of age or younger.<br \/><br \/>\u201cWe are pleased to be able to help more families and caregivers of children with autism who need extra support,\u201d said Brian Comer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u201cWith this new fund, we\u2019re able to give Nova Scotia families a little extra help with some of these out-of-pocket expenses.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;169&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<br \/><br \/>Examples of eligible expenses include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; safety equipment, such as door alarms and minor home improvements, such as gates, and fences<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; education materials and training for caregivers (including manuals)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; augmentative communication devices<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; respite costs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; travel for intervention or diagnostic services or medical appointments outside a child\u2019s home community<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; programming for children, such as social recreational opportunities, camps, school tutoring.<br \/><br \/>To qualify for funding, a family\u2019s income must be below maximums listed in the fund guidelines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The amounts vary by family size.
