ENFIELD\/FALL RIVER:<\/strong> The rutting of the road along Highway 102 between the Airport and Lantz\/Elmsdale is a concern to many residents and they let the Leader of the Official Opposition know about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Zach Churchill said one of the many issues he heard from residents in East Hants and HRM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He spoke about the concerns heard during a recent visit to Enfield and Elmsdale last week was about the safety concern regarding the ruts and the province\u2019s lack of action in fixing them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cPeople are really concerned about the state of the highway,\u201d said Churchill. \u201cThat needs to be repaired.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”190″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”115″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n Churchill said people are concerned about their safety and traveling on the highway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIf there’s a bit of water in those ruts, you can’t see them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThat can, as we’ve seen, lead to tragic outcomes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Department of Public Works has acknowledged there is an issue on Highway 102.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe\u2019re aware of the ruts in that area,\u2019 said spokesman Gary Andrea to The Laker News when we inquired about them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cRutting can form for various reasons including traffic levels, age of the asphalt, conditions in the base of the road (ground underneath) or a combination of items.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate group=”2″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”92″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”207″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n But what is the cause of the rutting on Highway 102 in the Enfield\/Airport\/Elmsdale area?<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIn this case the cause of the rutting is unclear,\u201d said Andrea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He said the provincial government has committed $161 million for asphalt and resurfacing of highways and roads this year in the five-year highway plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe entire 100 series network is evaluated annually, and we prioritize rehabilitation based on priorities within our pavement management system,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”87″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”188″]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" [adrotate banner=”78″] [adrotate banner=”111″] ENFIELD\/FALL RIVER: The rutting of the road along Highway 102 between the Airport and Lantz\/Elmsdale is a concern to many residents and they let the Leader of the Official Opposition know about it.
