{"id":42500,"date":"2024-02-04T14:59:18","date_gmt":"2024-02-04T18:59:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=42500"},"modified":"2024-02-04T14:59:18","modified_gmt":"2024-02-04T18:59:18","slug":"mother-nature-winter-spoils-dragons-momentum-red-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=42500","title":{"rendered":"Old Man Winter spoils Dragons momentum at Red Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;115&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>COXHEATH: <\/strong>The Lockview High Dragons boys hockey team were on a roll at the Red Cup, before Mother Nature decided to play a part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Dragons were 2-1 in play and heading to a semi-final game when organizers were forced to cancel the remaining games due to the Nor\u2019easter that was expected to dump upwards of 100 cm of snow on Cape Breton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two teams, Central Kings, and North Nova, justifiably withdrew as weather worsened in mainland N.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;54&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Against Riverview, the Dragons lost in a nail biter 2-1 to host Riverview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jake MacAulay, from Colin Peryer, had the lone Lockview goal that tied the game 1-1 early in the second period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Riverview scored a late second period goal on the power-play and it was a scoreless third period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Will Roach was between the pipes for the Dragons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/DSC_0462-1024x700.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-42501\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Nate Powell, LHS no 16, sprays some ice towards a Riverview player. 9Submitted photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;190&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;105&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the team\u2019s opener, LHS blanked Central Kings 5-0, led by a two- goal effort by Colin Peryer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nate Powell; Gabe Henry; and Jake MacAulay had single markers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assists went to Rowan Jenkins; Ryan Millett; Preston Sullivan; Colin Peryer; Ben Fraser; Jake MacAulay; Olivier Truax; and Andrew Sinclair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michael Penny stopped all 15 shots he faced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lockview fired 22 pucks at the Central Kings goalie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;8&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;105&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the final round robin game, it was an explosive third period as all six goals in the game were scored in the final stanza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lockview came away with the 4-2 win over Sydney Academy after scoring four straight goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Colin Peryer had two goals, while singles went to Ben Fraser and Ryan Millett. Fraser\u2019s goal was the eventual game winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assists went to Preston Sullivan; Nate Powell; Jake MacAulay; Jaxon Bell; Colin Peryer; Ben Fraser; and Gabe Woolaver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michael Penny earned the goaltending win stopping 15 of 17 shots.
