FALL RIVER:<\/strong> Fiona Day is all smiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Fall River product has announced she will be donning the Garnet and Grey of the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees women\u2019s rugby team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The news was made public last week and posted by the Gee-Gees on their Instagram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Many friends congratulated Day, a Lockview High student, on the news through shares in their Instagram stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Gee-Gees said Day was their first recruit for the 2024-2025 women\u2019s rugby season to be announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”115″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate group=”8″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n Day said she was very happy to commit to the Gee-Gees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2019m excited to be going to uOttawa and playing for them,\u201d said Day, who also plays with the ACTION Benefits Penguins U18 female hockey team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She said uOttawa \u201cfelt most like home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt\u2019s also the best place for my schooling and rugby wise,\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Day said with the decision made she enjoy what\u2019s left of her senior year at LHS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt\u2019s a weight lifted off of my shoulder, less pressure to choose a school,\u201d said Day. \u201cI can enjoy the rest of my high school.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n She said she will prepare the only way she knows how.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI will continue to train hard and come prepared for both training camp and school,\u201d said Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”190″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Gee-Gees bestowed accolades on the Halifax TARS player.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cFiona\u2019s speed and rugby IQ have been key on the TARS,\u201d they said on their Instagram post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe\u2019re looking forward to having her in the Granet and Grey.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n If the Gee-Gees name sounds familiar to locals it should.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At least two other local athletes\u2014Camryn Giddens (volleyball) and Emma Archibald (Nordiq cross country skiing\u2014are also with clubs at the Ottawa university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”92″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”192″]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" [adrotate banner=”78″] [adrotate banner=”87″] FALL RIVER: Fiona Day is all smiles.
