1) Bad news for Canadian small businesses:<\/strong>
Presented with multiple options and the ability to \u2018pick any that apply,\u2019 Canadians were asked \u2018what they would sue a small business for if they didn\u2019t have to pay a lawyer unless they won.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n14.86%<\/td>
Auto accident with a business vehicle where they suffer an injury<\/em><\/td><\/tr>14.67%<\/td>
If a product they bought from a company was defective and caused an injury or damage to their property<\/em><\/td><\/tr>13.68%<\/td> If a small business or contractor made a mistake that damaged their property<\/em><\/td><\/tr> 13.07%<\/td> A slip and fall accident where they suffer an injury<\/em>

2) Signs of the times:<\/strong>
A combined total of 83.2%<\/strong> think Canadians are more likely (55.2%<\/strong>) or \u2018may be\u2019 more likely (28%<\/strong>) to sue a business than five years ago.

A combined 81%<\/strong> believe that Canadians who are financially struggling are more likely (54.4%<\/strong>) or \u2018maybe\u2019 more likely (26.6%<\/strong>) to sue a small business for a slip and fall accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3) American scheme?<\/strong>
66.9%<\/strong> still believe that Canadians are LESS likely to sue a small business than Americans are.

A combined 96.4%<\/strong> of Canadians think it is very important (79.7%<\/strong>) or somewhat important (16.7%<\/strong>) for small businesses to have insurance coverage to protect themselves against potential legal claims and liabilities, suggesting that they believe small businesses would be sued.

\u201cThe costs of defending your business in a lawsuit can be devastating,\u201d Yusuf added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4)<\/strong> Out of the office:<\/strong>
A combined 95.9%<\/strong> of Canadians think that Canadians steal from their employers. 41.3%<\/strong> say some, 13.4% <\/strong>say many, 17.2%<\/strong> say a significant number. 24% <\/strong>say \u2018more than most Canadians think.\u2019

56.2%<\/strong> of Canadians think that more Canadians are likely to steal from their employers because of the state of the economy and 27.4%<\/strong> think they may be more likely to do so.

5) Most predatory provinces:<\/strong>\u00a0
Asked, \u2018In which province do they think people are most likely to sue small businesses?\u2019 over half of Canadians (51.20%<\/strong>) said Ontario, distantly followed by Quebec (15.5%<\/strong>), Alberta (11%<\/strong>), and B.C. (10.3%<\/strong>). <\/strong>P.E.I. (1.9%<\/strong>), Saskatchewan (1.6%<\/strong>), and New Brunswick (1.5%<\/strong>) were cited as provinces where it\u2019s the least likely people would sue small businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6) Do the (wrong) thing:<\/strong>
When asked if they\u2019ve ever chosen not to pursue legal action against a small business out of concern for a business owner\u2019s financial stability, 69.8%<\/strong> say \u2018no.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
