{"id":44343,"date":"2024-04-17T19:35:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-17T22:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=44343"},"modified":"2024-04-17T19:35:00","modified_gmt":"2024-04-17T22:35:00","slug":"partnership-leads-to-installation-of-outdoor-aed-in-elmsdale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=44343","title":{"rendered":"Partnership leads to installation of outdoor AED in Elmsdale"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;212&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EL<strong>MSDALE:<\/strong> A partnership between two community organizations formed to honour loved ones gone too soon has led to an outdoor AED being installed in the heart of Elmsdale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Outside Leno\u2019s Stop Shop on Wednesday morning (April 17), approximately 15 people attended the installation of an outdoor cabinet and AED at the store located on Hwy 214 in Elmsdale (adjacent to the traffic lights with Hwy 2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The AED will be housed in a heated, weather-proof <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/savestation.ca?__cft__%5b0%5d=AZWPpkC3lPn2_ZuZeKF5OZPLl4ugenrE6dz0tNA0n5mPuYke7INDWWTH4spLQOyqVh0rFfICURukd2Lrq1dRCZVT4pzc2TVrppadqFQROIiR4XGMaxc4t9GZirws4M9PFTNBio_iMDKLKDVK-EyNlmDcQKbCd74ePdBTzsQ1anJAH1DhEGX4TX7E9Un55HLHfJZyTmTZwepY5fVhyPUqmcT5PxxJKAfBQZ8ONLt99ZODxbMnV90k0bN-vhaoPo59xhY&amp;__tn__=-%5dK-y-R\">SaveStation<\/a> cabinet, and will be accessible to anyone who needs it 24\/7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was made possible through a team effort by Suzanne Gilby from the Ritchie Gilby Memorial Society and Jeff and Angie Bannister of the Braeden Bannister Memorial Fund and the EHS AED Registry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Braeden Bannister died in 2019 and Ritchie Gilby in 2022, both from cardiac-related events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;190&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/IMG_1041-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-44370\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Laura Mather from EHS demonstrates the AED to some of those in attendance. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;115&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;67&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mike Janczyszyn, a paramedic, and Coordinator with the EHS AED Registry, said they are happy to have one placed where if people need it they can get it and act quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really all about the three links of chain of survival- recognizing something is happening; calling 911; and doing CPR\/using an AED, so having it accessible and available and increases the awareness of it being out there,\u201d said <em>Janczyszyn,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said people also don\u2019t need to be trained in them on how to use an AED.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe encourage training, but they\u2019re easy to use as they tell you what to do,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe actually never want an AED to be used, but if something does happen we want that AED to be accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day if an AED just sits there and doesn\u2019t get used, that\u2019s good because it means no one has gone into cardiac arrest,\u201d said <em>Janczyszyn<\/em>. \u201cBut if that situation happens, we want people to be prepared.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Janczyszyn<\/em> said for Leno to allow the installation was a bonus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s been a supporter of this right from the start,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/IMG_1033-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-44368\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The group that was there for the AED installation.
