{"id":45759,"date":"2024-06-04T19:15:48","date_gmt":"2024-06-04T22:15:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=45759"},"modified":"2024-06-04T19:15:48","modified_gmt":"2024-06-04T22:15:48","slug":"lewis-caps-off-high-school-track-career-with-provincial-double-gold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=45759","title":{"rendered":"Lewis caps off high school track career with provincial double gold"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;93&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BEAVER BANK:<\/strong> Abby Lewis felt no pressure as she went into the final School Sport Nova Scotia (SSNS) provincial track and field meet of her high school career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Beaver Bank athlete said she went into provincials, held in Cape Breton last week, just wanting to as the song said, \u201csoak up the sun light.\u201d And she did that\u2014and came away with two more gold medals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lewis glided smoothly and calmly around the CBU track to win the 1500 metre and 3000 metre races she was entered in for Lockview High.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGoing into provincial, I was focused on enjoying myself and soaking up my last race in the Lockview singlet,\u201d Lewis told The Laker News in an interview on June 4, \u201cwhile also performing my best and leaving my mark in high school track.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;8&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Athletics East runner said it means the world to go out winning gold in both of her events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI couldn\u2019t have asked for a better way to end my high school career,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt will definitely be a highlight of my senior year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lewis was asked to look back and try to give a highlight that stood out. She said that was impossible to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere have been so many highlights looking back at my time as a high school athlete,\u201d said Lewis, who will be starting at Boston College next September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEach cross country and track season has been so much fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve loved competing along side my closest friends, from my school and from schools across the province.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/IMG_2226-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-45760\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Abby Lewis on the podium with second and third.
