{"id":46045,"date":"2024-06-16T07:30:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-16T10:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=46045"},"modified":"2024-06-16T07:30:00","modified_gmt":"2024-06-16T10:30:00","slug":"braedens-bench-minor-baseball-remembers-inspiring-youngster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=46045","title":{"rendered":"Braeden&#8217;s Bench: Minor baseball remembers inspiring youngster"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ENFIELD:<\/strong> It was an emotional night at the ball field in Enfield on Thursday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A memorial bench recognizing one of the former Corridor Minor Baseball Nationals players gone far too soon was unveiled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before a large crowd of friends, community members, and family, the Nationals unveiled the Braeden Bannister Memorial Bench.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bench is situated on the third base side of the George P. Horne Memorial Field (big one) at the Enfield Legion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Braeden was a true teammate on and off the field, a coach\u2019s dream and his smile lit up every dug out he entered, said Jackie Dobbin in her speech at the ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;115&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;2&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/cbJahZWZ-1024x971.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46047\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Braeden&#8217;s parents Jeff and Angie join Lantz firefighters at the unveiling. (Liane Gillis photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Lantz Fire was in attendance for the bench unveiling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Braeden was a volunteer firefighter with the department when he died during a family outing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was an accomplished athlete, an honours student, a volunteer firefighter with Lantz Volunteer Fire and an amazing human being with a strong desire to give back to others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The memorial fund started by his parents in their sons name has been able to help countless other athletes and local organizations because of the communities support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;190&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;87&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ball coach Gary Redden, who was unable to attend, passed along a few remarks that Dobbin read. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Braeden\u2019s commitment to his community matched his passion for sports. As a junior firefighter with the Lantz volunteer fire Dpt, he exemplified a desire to help others and a willingness to contribute selflessly,&#8221; read Dobbin from Redden&#8217;s email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;He was a budding community volunteer whose legacy of kindness, dedication and spirit will forever be remembered. He is dearly missed.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On this night, the memorial bench became a reality because of MLA John A. MacDonald; Sangsters Automotive; and Shooters Bar &amp; Grill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organizers wished to thank them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYour kindness and generosity is beyond measure, thank you for your generous giving spirit,\u201d Dobbin said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/HgfD3OWd-1024x529.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46048\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The crowd at the unveiling.
