{"id":46145,"date":"2024-06-19T06:31:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-19T09:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=46145"},"modified":"2024-06-19T06:31:00","modified_gmt":"2024-06-19T09:31:00","slug":"maple-ridge-holland-road-sacs-among-projects-to-receive-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=46145","title":{"rendered":"Maple Ridge, Holland Road SAC&#8217;s among projects to receive funding"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;210&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FLETCHERS LAKE\/LANTZ:<\/strong> Two local School Advisory Councils are receiving funding from the province through the SAC Innovation Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 26 funding recipients across the province were announced June 18 by Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Becky Druhan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maple Ridge Elemetary School in Lantz was one of two from CCRCE to get support for Sparkle and Shine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For HRCE, Holland Road Elementary School in Fltechers Lake receivied funding as one of nine from the regional centre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They received support for Building Bridges to Learning: Creating an Inclusive Elementary School Learning Commons<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;192&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<br \/><br \/>Announced in December as part of the government\u2019s work to ensure families and other community members have more say in school operations, the fund enables new and innovative projects to support student achievement and well-being. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It provides grants of up to $10,000 to test an idea, which \u2013 if shown to be successful \u2013 could be expanded to other schools.<br \/><br \/>\u201cI&#8217;m impressed with the creativity and commitment to bettering schools that SACs showed in their applications to the innovation fund,\u201d said Druhan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe councils really demonstrated their deep understanding of their school communities and the things that get students engaged in their learning experience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;71&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<br \/><br \/>Funded projects include:<br \/>&#8211; expanding school gardens with hydroponic equipment<br \/>&#8211; building a model apartment for students with special needs to practise everyday life skills in a realistic environment<br \/>&#8211; purchasing technology and materials to create multilingual multimedia to support newcomer families and students in navigating their new school, education system and community.<br \/><br \/>Applications were open from February 15 to April 18, and the Department received 128. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In total, more than $250,000 was awarded to 26 recipients.<br \/><br \/><strong>Quick Facts:<br \/><\/strong>&#8211; SACs are volunteer organizations with roles and responsibilities set out in the Education Act and supporting regulations<br \/>&#8211; SAC members can include parents and guardians, school staff (including teachers), students and members of the wider community<br \/>&#8211;
