{"id":46354,"date":"2024-06-24T11:26:47","date_gmt":"2024-06-24T14:26:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=46354"},"modified":"2024-06-24T11:26:47","modified_gmt":"2024-06-24T14:26:47","slug":"its-a-fitting-end-lara-wraps-up-with-donation-to-turf-field-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=46354","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;It&#8217;s a fitting end.&#8221; LARA wraps up with donation to Turf Field project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;105&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER:<\/strong> It was a perfect way to wrap up the Lockview Area Ratepayers Association (LARA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LARA had been looking for a way to support the community with what they had left in their bank account to then be able to close the volunteer ratepayers group once and for all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mike Creighton and Steve Boyce presented Turf Field committee chairwoman Rita Nigam with a cheque for a little over $19,000. That was all that was left in the volunteer organization\u2019s bank account, to help the multi-sport field reach its touchdown line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two thought the HRM Northern Suburban Turf Field was the perfect project to do that, so they made a donation to the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the donation the turf field is now close to reaching its $213,000 community donation goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;71&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;148&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The community outgrew LARA, which began in 1983 or thereabouts, said Creighton, so it was time to wrap it up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had a bunch of money that we were looking for a good project and cause to put the money into, and the Turf Field seemed to be the perfect thing to support,\u201d said Creighton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo we did.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Creighton said it was part of LARA\u2019s mandate to support projects that improved the quality of life in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis fit the bill perfectly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;97&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/IMG_7561-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46358\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The cheque is presented. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Boyce, who grew up right across the street from LHS, said it means everything to be able to give back to the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like Creighton, he has been involved with LARA and things in the community, such as Lockview where his wife taught for a few years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnything we can do for the community is great,\u201d he said. \u201cLike Mike said, we had some money leftover, and this is a fabulous cause and it\u2019s great for the community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe couldn\u2019t be more pleased to be able to help out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Creighton summarized LARA\u2019s impact on the community, and it\u2019s ability to support projects like the Turf Field.
