{"id":46791,"date":"2024-07-11T19:46:47","date_gmt":"2024-07-11T22:46:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=46791"},"modified":"2024-07-11T19:46:47","modified_gmt":"2024-07-11T22:46:47","slug":"hrm-says-potential-designated-tent-encampments-only-to-open-after-require-planning-completed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=46791","title":{"rendered":"HRM says potential designated tent encampments only to open after require planning completed"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;169&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;188&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HALIFAX:<\/strong> The HRM says that the opening of nine potential designated encampment locations on their list they approved at regional council on July 9 will only happen if conditions are met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a release on July 11, HRM said that the locations on this list will only open after the completion of required planning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will include preparation for supports to people sleeping rough at designated locations and mitigating potential community impacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;7&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On July 9, <a>Regional<\/a> Council approved the following list of nine <strong>potential<\/strong> designated locations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bayers Road Windsor Street Park (Halifax)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BiHi Park (Halifax)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bisset Road (Dartmouth)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chain Lake Park (Halifax)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cogswell Park (Halifax)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Geary Street Green Space (Dartmouth)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Glebe Street Park (Halifax)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Halifax Common (berm) (Halifax)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Point Pleasant Park (Halifax)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;71&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>These locations are not currently designated for sleeping rough.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If any of these sites are opened as designated locations, that information will be shared publicly, including the specific section or area permitted for sleeping rough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To open any of the potential designated sites, detailed site preparation will first need to be completed by municipal staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;148&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;92&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The municipality has explored other options, including privately owned land and sought other space for encampments from provincial and federal governments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HRM municipality does not support encampments or tenting for those experiencing homelessness.
