{"id":47267,"date":"2024-07-28T19:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-28T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=47267"},"modified":"2024-07-28T19:00:00","modified_gmt":"2024-07-28T22:00:00","slug":"we-needed-that-third-place-finish-feels-like-win-for-lively","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=47267","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;We needed that.&#8221; Third place finish feels like win for Lively"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;115&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>OYSTER BED BRIDGE:<\/strong> For Steve Lively, his third-place finish at the BJ\u2019S Truck Centre 150 on Saturday night in Oyster Bed Bridge, P.E.I., felt like a win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Shubenacadie wheelman said so much in Victory Lane in an interview with The Laker News after piloting the no. 30 around a few late race wrecks that resulted in cautions during the East Coast International Maritime Pro Stock Tour race at Oyster Bed Speedway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The race was the lone stop on the Island for the 10-race circuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It marked his 50<sup>th<\/sup> start on the tour putting the East Coast Financing-sponsored driver into the tour\u2019s Legacy program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe needed that,&#8221; said an exuberant and over-the-moon Lively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;8&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;92&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/IMG_4327-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-47268\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Islander Robbie MacEwen in Victory Lane after the pro stock race. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Lively withstood a few late race cautions, including one that saw Nic Naugle and Cory Hall, battling for the lead, get taken out by each other with about five laps to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That left Robbie MacEwen, the eventual winner in the no. 40, and rookie Gage Gilby of Enfield in second and Lively lurking behind at the time in fourth place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He would wind up getting third, ahead of the no 32 of Chris Hughes, who was the pole sitter, and the mangled no. 11V of Jordan Veinotte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PHOTO OF JORDAN\u2019S CAR:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/453095773_10161462562487095_6371750803788411857_n-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-47271\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">What&#8217;s left of the fifth place no. 11V of Jordan Veinotte after OBS. (Submitted photo\/FB)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In victory lane, you could tell how much the podium finish meant for Lively and his team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think anyone knows how badly we needed this for our morality,\u2019 said Lively, who took the green 17<sup>th<\/sup> out of the 20-car field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor me, for my team, my sponsors, my family, all of us man we needed that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t say too mush. We made all the right moves; it was just by luck.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;218&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Enfield\u2019s Gage Gilby, it was his first time at OBS in a Pro Stock. He had visited several times before in a Legend car when the Cross Roads Maritime League of Legends would pay a visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is huge for us,\u201d said Gilby as his team celebrated, and there may have been some tears from family members. \u201cWe came here for the first time in a Pro Stock, and just threw a setup at it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt looks like that worked out for us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In practice, Gilby was mid-pack through the first two sessions, working on adjustments through each of the first two sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the final practice session, his team found what was working right as he was second fast right behind MacEwen. Cory Hall was third fastest in final practice behind Gilby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the BJ\u2019s Truck Centre 150, Gilby started ninth in the race and avoided the calamity around him\u2014including one wreck that involved a car right behind him that eld to a multi-vehicle pileup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He doesn\u2019t think he could have got to the lead without moving MacEwen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think I could have got to first cleanly,\u201d said Gilby. \u201cIt was tight firing off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very happy and pleased to come home with second for our first time here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/IMG_4331-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-47269\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Gage Gilby after his second place run. It\u2019s expected to have around 22-25 cars entered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was asked how he carries this momentum into that race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is just a big momentum builder for our team,\u201d he said, noting his 17<sup>th<\/sup> place finish at the IWK 250 last week. \u201cThis proves that we can show up off the trailer at a new track and be fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cKnowing that I think our team is going to gain a lot of confidence for the SummerClash 250.
