That is what surprised him the most. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In their Facebook post, the LDRA said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe ice will not be going into the Sackville Community Arena this year,\u201d read the post, which has been shared 574 times. \u201cHRM has decided that they can only afford to support all of HRM, except Sackville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey have decided Sackville tax dollars should be spent in the rest of HRM, but not Sackville.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The post has more than 350 comments as of 4;10 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;105&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it was brought to Russell\u2019s attention, it was news to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEarlier today the LDRA issued a statement that they would not be putting ice in the Sackville Arena,\u201d said Russell in a statement to The Laker News. \u201cThe decision to not put ice in the Arena was a decision entirely made by the LDRA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe statement that they issued has come as a surprise.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHRM has been working with the LDRA in order to provide some additional funding for the organization.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said HRM is continuing to work towards the additional funding, even though the LDRA has issued their statement today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe do hope that the LDRA will reconsider their decision,\u201d said Russell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The LDRA is an independent non-profit organization that owns and operates the Sackville Arena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Russell said the LDRA has been a strong community partner for decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was responsible for constructing the Sackville Sports Stadium and the Metropolitan Field, both of which are now owned and operated by HRM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHRM appreciates the work that the LDRA has done and continues to do to help provide recreation opportunities for Lower Sackville and the surrounding area,\u201d said Russell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a former member of the LDRA board, I also have a special appreciation for the work that the LDRA does and for the challenges that they face.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;148&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;169&#8243;] [adrotate banner=&#8221;188&#8243;] LOWER SACKVILLE: The sudden announcement Tuesday afternoon that the Sackville Arena will not be putting its ice in this winter has caught many by surprise\u2014even the local councillor.
