{"id":47553,"date":"2024-08-12T11:57:21","date_gmt":"2024-08-12T14:57:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=47553"},"modified":"2024-08-12T11:57:21","modified_gmt":"2024-08-12T14:57:21","slug":"local-first-responder-groups-receive-provincial-funding-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=47553","title":{"rendered":"Local first responder groups receive provincial funding support"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;218&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[arotate banner=&#8221;188&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MUSQUODOBOIT VALLEY:<\/strong> Five local organizations that are either volunteer fire services or ground search and rescue are among 64 province-wide receiving funding support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The five in the communities that are covered by The Laker News are receiving close to $100,000 from the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister John Lohr announced the funding to the first responders on Aug. 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lohr said the province is providing the funding to the first responder organizations for their vital work in protecting Nova Scotians, their homes and communities<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<br \/><br \/>Nova Scotia&#8217;s Emergency Services Provider Fund will support 64 organizations this year, including fire departments, ground search and rescue teams and hazardous materials units.<br \/><br \/>\u201cVolunteer first responders are the backbone of our communities, tirelessly dedicating their time and effort to protect and serve,\u201d said John Lohr, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTheir recent heroic efforts during the floods highlight their invaluable contribution, and this funding is a gesture of deep appreciation for their service.\u201d<br \/><br \/>Grants totalling nearly $1.2 million will be distributed to organizations for upgrading equipment essential for fire and other emergency response operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Receiving funding locally from the program are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Musquodoboit Valley Ground Search &amp; Rescue &#8211; Rescue Equipment $20,000<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stewiacke and District Volunteer Fire Department &#8211; Rescue Equipment $20,000<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enfield Volunteer Fire Department &#8211; PPE gear $20,000<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Milford and District Volunteer Fire Brigade Society &#8211; PPE &amp; Misc Rescue Equipment $19,832<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Halifax Regional Fire &amp; Emergency PPE &amp; Rescue Equipment $20,000<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A<strong>DVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;71&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;210&#8243;]<br \/><br \/>The fund is one of the ways the province is supporting emergency responders and improving the response to emergencies:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; by this fall, 2,000 new trunked radios will be provided to responders, which will improve communication as they assist Nova Scotians in need<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; a pilot program aimed at improving the mental health of Nova Scotia\u2019s first responders and other public safety personnel launched earlier this year<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0 the Nova Scotia Guard, a new volunteer corps that will help communities respond to and recover from crises and disasters, will launch this fall.<br \/><strong><br \/>Quotes:<br \/><\/strong>\u201cOur first responders demonstrate unwavering commitment and bravery, often facing dangerous situations to ensure the safety of Nova Scotians. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This funding is crucial in ensuring they have the tools and equipment they need to perform their duties effectively and safely.
