The grand opening, with remarks from Hants East MLA John A. MacDonald; Kings-Hants MP Kody Blois; and Municipality of East Hants Warden Eleanor Roulston took place on Tuesday afternoon at the facility, located on Burgess Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new facility that will provide accessible and sustainable services to the community of Shubenacadie for years to come, officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Funding of the project includes a federal portion of $1.9 million; province contributed $1.59 million; with the municipality outing in the remainder of the $9.540 project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”218″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”87″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n Construction of the facility began in 2022 and has been operational since July 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The previous treatment plant was at maximum capacity for several years and required new technology to create capacity for housing and overall community growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Roulston said the plant was designed by CBCL Limited and Constructed by L&R Construction Limited. It supports the wastewater treatment service for residents, local businesses, and a school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She acknowledged the councillors that were able to make the announcement, and the staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis is a big day for the community of Shubenacadie and all of East Hants,\u201d said Roulston as she began her remarks. \u201cI want to recognize the residents of Shubenacadie for their patience and support.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Roulston said the importance of the new wastewater treatment facility cannot be overstated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt has been a priority for our community for several years,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cSeeing it finally come to life is incredibly gratifying.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n She said the facility doesn\u2019t just help the municipality manage wastewater effectively but does so much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt lays a strong foundation for future growth,\u201d she said. \u201cWith this state-of-the-art facility now in place, we are well positioned to attract new residents and new businesses and opportunities to the Shubenacadie area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHere\u2019s to a new chapter for Shubenacadie, and East Hants.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”115″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”190″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n Blois said that the opening was a good thing for the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cToday\u2019s a great day,\u201d he said. \u2018There are a number of municipal workers here that do important work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe as politicians can come and talk about the investments we\u2019re making, but without the workers and the folks on the ground that actually build and maintain the infrastructure, we\u2019d be lost without them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n He said it\u2019s important because of the growth of the communities in East Hants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhat was not able to happen here in Shubenacadie was growth on the residential side simply because there wasn\u2019t capacity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe fact that this project was announced and has come to fruition is a great sign we\u2019re making in the municipality to have growth in all corners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cPeople want to live here, and there\u2019s a whole lot of reasons to be here (in East Hants).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate group=”2″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”93″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n MacDonald recalled when he was sitting as a councillor and council found out that Shubenacadie was minus and couldn\u2019t approve residential or commercial development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cShubenacadie has suffered for this over the years,\u201d he said. \u201cI think this is a great opportunity for Shubenacadie to grow the way Shubenacadie wants to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThat\u2019s one of the benefits of this area. It\u2019s not well developed so they\u2019re going to be able to develop it the way it wants, whereas in the cases of Lantz, Elmsdale, Enfield it\u2019s already there so it\u2019s hard to change it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n He credited all the work done by municipal staff on the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cKody is right that the politicians get to come here and announce but we\u2019re not the ones doing the heavy work, it\u2019s the municipal staff,\u2019 said MacDonald. \u2018They have to do the applications find the contractors and workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2019ll be looking forward to the day I\u2019m hearing that we\u2019re having a problem with the municipality with the amount of residential permits we have to approve in Shubenacadie.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”67″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”92″]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" [adrotate banner=”78″] [adrotate banner=”111″] SHUBENACADIE: A $9.5 million state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility in Shubenacadie is officially opened.
