{"id":48535,"date":"2024-09-22T10:39:45","date_gmt":"2024-09-22T13:39:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=48535"},"modified":"2024-09-22T10:39:45","modified_gmt":"2024-09-22T13:39:45","slug":"legislative-session-helped-workers-promoted-economic-growth-province-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=48535","title":{"rendered":"Legislative session helped workers, promoted economic growth, province says"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;169&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>From a release<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HALIFAX:<\/strong> The government passed legislation that will help workers and create an environment for improved economic growth during the latest session of the House of Assembly, which ended September 20.<br \/><br \/>\u201cWe are standing up for Nova Scotians and will continue to do so,\u201d said Premier Tim Houston. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur legislation supports workers and families, will help industry grow to create rural jobs, and ensures we can keep building homes to tackle the housing crisis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This session also saw the members of the legislature debate important issues impacting Nova Scotians. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;While in the legislature we repeated calls to end the federal carbon tax \u2013 the federal government\u2019s tax costs Nova Scotians nearly $400 million per year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;210&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;192&#8243;]<br \/><br \/>The legislature also debated matters such as the Chignecto Isthmus and the federal government\u2019s proposal to send more asylum seekers to Nova Scotia.<br \/><br \/>\u201cOur position on the isthmus is clear \u2013 we believe this is a federal project,\u201d said Houston. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe will continue to advocate for the best deal for Nova Scotians.\u201d<br \/><br \/>Premier Houston said the federal proposal to send more asylum seekers to Nova Scotia is unacceptable<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201c<\/strong>We have a strategic and sustainable plan to grow our population over the long-term,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ottawa\u2019s plan to suddenly send 6,000 asylum seekers to our province is unsustainable and wouldn\u2019t be in the best interest of Nova Scotians.\u201d<br \/><br \/>\u201cThis session showed we are driving hard bargains on behalf of Nova Scotians.
