{"id":48726,"date":"2024-09-29T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-29T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=48726"},"modified":"2024-09-29T07:00:00","modified_gmt":"2024-09-29T10:00:00","slug":"truth-and-reconciliation-week-provides-opportunity-for-reflection-learning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=48726","title":{"rendered":"Truth and Reconciliation Week provides opportunity for reflection, learning"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;188&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HALIFAX\/FALL RIVER:<\/strong> Each year at this time, Nova Scotians are encouraged to recognize the province\u2019s long-standing treaty relationship with the Mi\u2019kmaq and deepen their understanding of truth and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples in Canada.<br \/><br \/>Nova Scotia recognizes Monday, September 30, as Truth and Reconciliation Day \u2013 a day dedicated to recognizing and honouring the survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also known as Orange Shirt Day, people can wear orange in support of the message that every child matters.<br \/><br \/>Tuesday, October 1, is Treaty Day \u2013 a day to celebrate the significance of thetreaty relationship and to recognize the important contributions of the Mi\u2019kmaq to Nova Scotia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;105&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It kicks off Mi\u2019kmaw History Month, which provides an opportunity for all Nova Scotians to learn about and celebrate the Mi\u2019kmaq and their culture, heritage and language<strong>.<br \/><br \/><\/strong>\u201cI encourage all Nova Scotians to take the opportunity to learn about the long-standing and mutual obligations of the Peace and Friendship Treaties,\u201d said Brian Wong, Minister of L\u2019nu Affairs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEach and every one of us are treaty people.
