RCMP lay 222 impaired-related charges over three month span"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;188&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;169&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BEAVER BANK\/LOWER SACKVILLE<\/strong>: The RCMP across Nova Scotia laid 222 impaired-related charges during a span from April to June 2024, the force said in a release on Sept. 25. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nova Scotia RCMP releasing the statistics for all RCMP detachments in Nova Scotia from April to June 2024\u00a0on drivers charged for driving impaired by drugs or alcohol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the months of April, May and June, the Nova Scotia RCMP charged\u00a0222\u00a0drivers with impaired-related offences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>188\u00a0charged with Impaired Operation of a Conveyance by Alcohol<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>10\u00a0charged with Impaired Operation of a Conveyance by Drug<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>24\u00a0charged with Refusal of a Demand Made by a Peace Officer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;192&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to investigations that resulted in charges, a further 148 people were issued administrative driving suspensions for Operating a Conveyance While Having Consumed Alcohol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Impaired driving investigations can be complex, especially when they involve both alcohol and drugs. This is why Nova Scotia RCMP officers receive a variety of training, and have several tools at their disposal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Nova Scotia, there are approximately\u00a0419\u00a0RCMP members with training related to drug-impaired driving,\u00a0thirty-two\u00a0of whom are Drug Recognition Experts (DREs). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nova Scotia RCMP also has\u00a0427\u00a0trained breath technicians who are qualified to operate instruments that determine a driver&#8217;s blood alcohol concentration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Failure or refusal to comply with a demand made by a peace officer for a sample for testing sobriety can result in criminal charges that have the same penalties as impaired driving. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are range of fines and periods of driving prohibition for those convicted of driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Citizens are asked to call\u00a0911\u00a0immediately if you see a driver who is driving erratically or unsafely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here are some signs of an impaired driver to watch for:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Driving unreasonably fast, slow or at an inconsistent speed<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Drifting in and out of lanes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tailgating and changing lanes frequently<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Making exceptionally wide turns<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Changing lanes or passing without sufficient clearance<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overshooting or stopping well before stop signs or stop lights<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Disregarding signals and lights<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Approaching signals or leaving intersections too quickly or slowly<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Driving without headlights, failing to lower high beams or leaving turn signals on<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Driving with windows open in cold or inclement weather<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A<strong>DVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;71&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;92&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you call\u00a0911, you will be asked to provide the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your location<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A description of the vehicle, including the license plate number, colour, make and model<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The direction of travel for the vehicle<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A description of the driver if visible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We would like to remind Nova Scotians to plan ahead and drive sober,&#8221; said RCMP Cpl.
