{"id":51303,"date":"2025-01-02T19:04:50","date_gmt":"2025-01-02T23:04:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=51303"},"modified":"2025-01-02T19:04:50","modified_gmt":"2025-01-02T23:04:50","slug":"inaugural-polar-bear-dip-in-mount-uniacke-a-resounding-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=51303","title":{"rendered":"Inaugural Polar Bear Dip in Mount Uniacke a resounding success"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;169&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MOUNT UNIACKE:<\/strong> First impressions leave a lasting impact and for organizers of the inaugural Polar Bear Dip in Mount Uniacke, they were left feeling pretty impressed on New Year\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 40 participants signed up and took the plunge to freeze for a reason while supporting the local food bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The participants all went running into the lake behind Uniacke &amp; District Fire in four separate heats, with groupings of 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/IMG_3159-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-51315\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Its almost time for these women to go in. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;2&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Firefighters with the department, including Chief Shawn Darby, and local community reporter Pat Healey of The Laker News were in the last grouping to hit the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The highlight of the event was seeing 90-year-old Arnie Ross go running in with just shorts on and Happy 2025 written across his chest and back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The crowd cheered as he went in and came out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organizers are already thinking about next year\u2019s event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/IMG_3137-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-51314\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Arnie Ross, 90, was ready to jump in and ring in 2025 in his 28th year of doing Polar Bear dips.
