{"id":52241,"date":"2025-02-11T21:24:50","date_gmt":"2025-02-12T01:24:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=52241"},"modified":"2025-02-11T21:24:50","modified_gmt":"2025-02-12T01:24:50","slug":"fire-destroys-grand-lake-home-woman-gets-out-with-minor-injuries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=52241","title":{"rendered":"Fire destroys Grand Lake home; woman gets out with minor injuries"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;93&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;188&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GRAND LAKE: <\/strong>Firefighters battled the frigid winter weather at a house fire late on Monday night in Grand Lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shortly before 10 p.m., fire crews from Station 42\/43 Wellington\/Grand Lake were paged to a structure fire with flames showing at a home on Oak Lane in Grand Lake. EHS and police also responded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The home was secluded off the main roadway, Oakleaf Crescent, so it isn\u2019t visible from the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you walk in you can see the devastation that the conflagration caused, destroying the home which was still smoldering on Tuesday morning at around 9:30 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;71&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides Station 42\/43, as part of the mutual aid protocol, Station 45 Fall River; Station 47 Goffs; Station 43 Grand Lake; Station 41 Waverley; Tac 8 from Bedford; Station 9 Sackville; Elmsdale fire; Lantz fire; Milford fire; and Nine Mile River fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Firefighters from Station 42\/43 were on site keeping an eye for hot spots and the smoldering, and spraying water on it when needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Station 45 Fall River firefighters arrived at about 1015\/1030 a.m. with more water to put on the hot spots if required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Incident Commander Ryan Crain, with Station 42 Wellington, said as fire crews arrived, they knew it was going to be a defensive attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFlames were through the roof, it was defensive fire conditions,\u201d he said at the scene. \u201cIt was heavy fire load, so we just put the water on the fire.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neighbours had posted the woman was okay outside of having a few burns as a result of the fire, and was transported to hospital by EHS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crews used the dry hydrant at the Grand Lake Oakfield playground first but quickly drained it so a water shuttle was setup and used from the Enfield Big Stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were approximately 50 firefighters on scene or part of the call, Crain said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had great mutual aid response,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhere we don\u2019t have a water source in this area we needed as many tankers as possible to shuttle water.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The house was still smoldering with smoke coming from it, so an excavator had been called in and crews were watching it closely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cStill smoldering so that\u2019s why we\u2019re still on scene searching for hot spots working with the excavator to get the rest of it torn down.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cause of the fire remains under investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;92&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;148&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/IMG_8201-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-52244\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Fire destroyed the house on Oak Lane in Grand Lake.
