{"id":52430,"date":"2025-02-18T16:50:37","date_gmt":"2025-02-18T20:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=52430"},"modified":"2025-02-18T16:50:37","modified_gmt":"2025-02-18T20:50:37","slug":"samson-announces-he-wont-seek-re-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=52430","title":{"rendered":"Samson announces he won&#8217;t seek re-election"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;93&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER:<\/strong> Darrell Samson will not be seeking re-election when the federal election is called.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sackville-Preston-Chezzetcook MP made the announcement on his social media channels on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the statement he said the decision came after great consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt has been an honour and privilege to represent my constituents over the last ten years,\u201d said Samson, who grew up in Cape Breton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;34&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;206&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samson said he is proud of everything he accomplished here at home to support communities across our riding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrom major projects like the Sackville-Bedford-Burnside Connector, to upgrading some of our local community centres and canoe clubs,\u201d he said, \u201cwe have strengthened our communities and brought people together in meaningful ways.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said from 2019 to 2024, he had the privilege of serving as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDuring this time, I deepened my understanding of Canada&#8217;s military history and worked to support our veterans by raising awareness of groups like the No. 2 Construction Battalion and securing spaces at Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital for both Allied Forces veterans and Canadian veterans who served after the Korean War,\u201d he said in the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/GkFSoiwXEAoROwq-791x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-52433\" style=\"width:525px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/GkFSoiyXEAE6qvq-791x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-52432\" style=\"width:469px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More recently, he has served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Rural Economic Development and the Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In that role he has helped secure funding for organizations making a meaningful impact in the Atlantic provinces, including for the thirteen Canadian Business Development Corporations (CBDCs) of Nova Scotia, the Tourism Industry Association of Prince Edward Island, and Universite Sainte-Anne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said he wanted to thank his wife, Faye, and his children, Chantal, Janelle, and Joel, for their patience and unwavering support over the past 10 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSince being elected in 2015, I&#8217;ve had the joy of becoming a grandfather to six incredible grandchildren &#8211;
