{"id":53219,"date":"2025-03-21T16:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-21T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=53219"},"modified":"2025-03-21T16:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-03-21T19:00:00","slug":"feds-invest-in-improving-expanding-wastewater-stormwater-infrastructure-in-lantz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=53219","title":{"rendered":"Feds invest in improving, expanding wastewater\/stormwater infrastructure in Lantz"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;115&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;218&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ELMSDALE:<\/strong> The Municipality of East Hants took a significant step forward with improving and expanding its wastewater and stormwater infrastructure in Lantz thanks to a federal government investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Thursday, one of two announcements from Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Rural Economic Development Kody Blois was for $6.3 million to the municipality for those projects related to the Brookside wastewater revitalization project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The announcement was made in council chambers at the Lloyd E. Matheson Building in Elmsdale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The funding will allow the municipality to improve wastewater capacity in Lantz by rebuilding the Poplar Drive Wastewater Lift Station, installing a new wastewater force main, adding backup generators to the Poplar Drive and Sportsplex Lift Stations, and upgrading stormwater infrastructure on Brookside Avenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once completed, this project will support local growth by redistributing wastewater catchment areas to increase capacity and strengthen resilience against extreme weather that could cause flooding and system issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a significant step forward for our community,\u201d said Warden Eleanor Roulston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;67&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG_1864-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-53222\" style=\"width:355px;height:auto\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">MEH Warden Eleanor Roulston. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Blois recalled speaking with Roulston and East Hants staff just before Christmas about CHIP and ensuring they had an application in for funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI said to Warden Roulston and staff that we needed to make sure they had an application in because they&#8217;re one of the fastest growing areas,\u201d said Blois.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCredit to the staff and the council for being able to believe and put that application in, and here we are we have $6,300,000 of federal funding to support the Brookside revitalization and water and waste treatment facility.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He praised Roulston and CAO Kim Ramsay and their entire team, both on the political and civil service side for doing a lot of the heavy lifting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere&#8217;s a lot of building out there, a lot of housing happening, and that&#8217;s good.
