NOVA SCOTIA:<\/strong> Love. Compassion. Empathy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Big topics to cover in an hour, but Janice Landry will run the gamut as this year\u2019s keynote speaker at the annual Volunteer Leadership Symposium on May 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This event features a full day of workshops aiming to empower and inspire volunteers and nonprofit leaders. The symposium is full of presentations to bring people together and build connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As always, the goal is to inspire volunteers with positive stories and offer practical information. <\/p>\n\n\n\n ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”31″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate group=”7″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n Janice Landry is known for her 35-year journalism career that spans radio and television. In recent years she has turned her talents towards writing, teaching, writing and producing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Her keynote will highlight stories from her latest book, Every Little Thing<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Landry has received national recognition for her advocacy work and writing. Every Little Thing<\/em> is her seventh book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOne of the main takeaways of my new book, Every Little Thing<\/em>, is that we all have gifts to share in order to lift up others and spread light.\u201d Landry added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHelpers and volunteers wear many hats, and they are the backbone of every community. This new work honours them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe need these positive stories. We need good news and headlines. We need more acts of kindness,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”237″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n [adrotate banner=”148″]<\/p>\n\n\n\n Other topics at this year\u2019s symposium include: Using AI for Grant Writing; Finding Simple Ways to Increase Accessibility.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Mandy Morgan, of Devour and the Halifax Jazz Festival will lead a workshop on volunteer management for special events<\/strong>; Kym Hume on creating and supporting inclusive environments for neurodivergent volunteers<\/strong>; and information sessions will be provided by Hike Nova Scotia,<\/strong> the Nova Scotia Guard.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Kings Volunteer Resource Centre, located in New Minas, is the educational affiliate of Volunteer Nova Scotia and offers workshops and resources for volunteers and nonprofit leaders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The 7th annual Volunteer Leadership Symposium is taking place at NSCC Kingstec campus, Kentville, on May 14 from 9:00 until 3:30 pm.
